Database Manager

About the Team

You will be part of, and lead, the team that develops, supports and maintains our database environment here at Williams-Sonoma, Inc. Our job is to ensure our internal customers get world class support and we provide scalable and secure solutions to our end users.

About the Role

In this hands-on Database Manager role, you will be responsible for guiding a team of DBAs to always provide excellent support. Your thought leadership and experience will help form the team's ability to deliver high quality solutions that you and the team are proud to be part of. Your ability to assess and form the skills within the team will be key to accomplishing the objectives and goals outlined for the team.

This role reports to the Director of Technology (Database, Storage, Backup and Recovery).

* Lead a team that oversees over 750 Oracle, MS SQL Server and Teradata databases;
* Lead the team to provide capacity planning and performance monitoring of our database environments;
* Guide and mentor your team to provide the best database support possible;
* Gather, analyze and drive project requirements from design to implementation;
* Ensure database designs and approaches are documented and updated;
* Partner with application development and support teams to ensure their expectations of the team are met;

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

* You have managed a team that provides customer support 24x7x365;
* You have the ability to successfully lead a team of DBA's to be "Best in Class";
* You have the ability to drive projects and lead the team to get the projects accomplished with superior results;
* You deliver winning results and take accountability for achieving team goals and objectives;
* You are an expert in diagnosing and solving complex problems and providing technical guidance;
* You understand the importance of data security and are able to implement secure practices and work with SOX and PCI internal and external auditors to provide the needed evidence of the security of our database environments;
* You have 10+ years of database related work experience;
* You have very good oral and written communication skills and have the ability to influence others;
* You have a BS or MS in Business, Computer Sciences, Engineering or related field (an equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered).

Technical Competencies Required:

* Deep understanding of Oracle DBMS 11.2 and 12c.
* Must have a deep understanding of Oracle Grid/RAC, Oracle Partitioning, Oracle CIS Security Standards, Oracle Enterprise Manager.
* Must understand Oracle performance tuning techniques.
* Deep understanding of database replication using the following technologies: Oracle Active Data Guard, Oracle Golden Gate, or related data replication products.
* Understanding of MS SQL Server and Teradata Enterprise technologies.
* Significant experience with AIX, Linux(RHEL) and Windows operating systems.
