Summary:

The goal of a Senior Systems Engineer is to install, configure, and deploy tools and applications to development, system test, performance, and production environments. Promote working software to development, system test, performance, and production environments as quickly as possible through fully automated build and deployments while maintaining build stability and improving speed and quality every step of the way. Provide administration and engineering support on multiple OS platforms in a multi-vendor environment, while working closely with architecture, application development, database, server and networking teams.

The Senior Systems Engineer duties and responsibilities are the following:

* Reviews and provides feedback for system design solutions

* Leads and participates in installation and configuration activities

* Develops and maintains procedures and system documentation

* Performs systems resource optimization activities

* Oversees monitoring, system access, and configuration management

* Participates in systems management, and security compliance activities.

* Supports resolution of production support incidents

* Routinely monitors all systems within the domain

* Researches new technologies (open source) and processes, collaborating on solutions for multiple teams and features

* Frequently interacts with business users, and/or functional peer group and managers

* Actively shares knowledge (technical and professional) through shared resources and informal teachings

* Identifies automation opportunities by communicating and collaborating with the team

* Develops and implements automation using Java, Shell, Python

* Researches and recommends automation and monitoring tools

* Provides automation best practices and IT operations support in an always-up, always-available service

* Troubleshoots issues across development, test and production systems

* Participates in On-Call rotation support

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements /Qualifications

* Bachelor's or Master's degree in relevant field of work or equivalent work experience
* Minimum of 8 years of related experience
* Experience with the following: TIBCO Suite, Apache HTTP Server, Apache Tomcat, JBoss, and IBM MQ WebSphere.
* Proficient in several programming (i.e. Java) or scripting languages (i.e. Shell/Curl/Python), domain specific languages, and Unix shells
* Experience with distributed version control systems (e.g. Subversion, CVS, Git)
* Experience with build automation and dependency tools (e.g. Ant, Maven, Gradle)
* Experience with continuous integration tools (e.g. Jenkins, Bamboo, CruiseControl)
* Experience with configuration management tools (e.g. Chef, Puppet, Ansible)
* Working knowledge in using and configuring various performance monitoring tools (e.g. Wily Introscope, Nagios, New Relic, JON, IBM Tivoli, BMC Patrol, IPSoft webchecks and AppDynamics)
* Expert knowledge of Unix/Linux and working knowledge of Windows operating systems
* Proficiency in Networking
* Experience with the process of packaging and deploying EAR, WAR, JAR files
* Knowledge in branching, merging, conflict resolution strategies etc.
