JOB DESCRIPTION

The Williams-Sonoma Digital Technology organization is seeking an energetic and talented Principal Software Engineer to help deliver high value, high quality features to our industry leading eCommerce websites. At Williams-Sonoma, Inc., we build 6 of the retail industries leading websites -- Williams-Sonoma, west elm, Mark and Graham and the Pottery Barn family. Engineers working at WSI get to work across the entire functional domain.

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will champion ongoing analytics development and growth, while maintaining the integrity of the current Data Layer structure. You will draft and design requirements for features and enhancements as well as craft a roadmap for long-term data platform strategy. As a member of a Scrum team, you will be implementing new features and enhancements. You will be an advocate for standards and best practices, deliver performance optimization, and help realize a Data Layer automation framework.

Key Job Functions

* Work with Architecture to craft technical designs and drive the evolution of our site architecture
* Collaborate with the Brand and Marketing Teams to identify and implement tags for key marketing partners
* Ensure ongoing stability of Analytics, Tagging and Testing libraries
* Partner with IT Security to ensure compliance with WSI security protocol
* Design and implement a plan to mitigate and improve the performance impacts of Third Party implementations
* Define and document Data Layer standards
* Work in tandem with multiple groups to strategize and prioritize next generation product initiatives, develop processes and solutions, and drive projects to completion
* Develop strong working relationships across levels and functions
* Facilitate problem diagnosis and resolution in relevant areas
* Drive change, including programs that improve developer productivity and reduce time to market
* Assist Product Managers in designing and defining new features
* Write code that is of high quality and consistent with our coding standards
* Write automated tests of new features to ensure they are of very high quality
* Review the work of other engineers in a collegial fashion to ensure the work product is of high quality and consistent with our standards
* Participate in, and potentially lead, Communities-of-Practice in those technologies in which you have an interest
* Participate in continuous education programs to grow your skills both technically and in the Williams-Sonoma business domain
* Serve as a member of a Scrum team and participate in all planning, stand-up and retrospective meetings

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

* 8+ years of experience as a professional software engineer
* 4-6 years of experience with web technologies
* An understanding of software development best practices
* Comprehensive knowledge of Enterprise Tag Management standards and best practices
* Extensive experience with the Tealium platform
* Proficiency with Adobe Cloud platform, particularly Adobe Analytics tools
* Mastery of Front-End technologies, including JavaScript, HTML and CSS
* Advanced knowledge of Web Site Performance Strategies
* Enthusiasm for constant improvement as a Software Engineer
* Ability to review and critique proposed designs and offer thoughtful feedback in a collegial fashion
* Skilled in writing and presenting -- able to craft needed messages so they are clearly expressed and easily understood
* Ability to work independently on complex problems of diverse complexity and scope
* Ease with Senior Management -- can effectively interface at many levels, including top executives

Additional Requirements
