JOB DESCRIPTION

The successful Assistant General Operations Manager provides leadership, guidance, and direction to the Managers and Associates in the assigned departments to encourage and gain support toward meeting corporate objectives. This position is accountable to develop tactical and strategic plans, on both the departmental and facility level, to constantly improve safety, service, quality and cost objectives. This position oversees activities of multiple departments and has multiple Operations Managers as direct reports. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Develop Managers and Associates reporting within organizational structure.
* Organize training classes centered on process improvement and metrics.
* Demonstrate and coach people first ? results oriented.
* Monitor the progress of departmental goals and metrics.
* Report building or departmental results.
* Measure results through developing spreadsheets / graphs / visual aides.
* Ensure staffing levels support volume by department. Review and analyze prior days activities in the Labor Management System.
* Collaborate with internal and external customers to ensure overall operational success.
* Hire, train, mentor and develop team members in order to assist with professional growth and development.
* Identification and analysis of root causes of key performance indicators in order to mitigate future occurrences.

SPECIALIZED FUNCTIONS:

* Lead by example by being prompt, courteous, and professional at all times.
* Effectively communicate departmental and Company objectives to the team.
* Develop and communicate daily, weekly and yearly goals and plans to improve productivity
* Develop strategies to reduce and eliminate non-productive activities in the departments.
* Working in cross-functional teams to address complicated problems, requiring several areas of expertise.
* Ability to anticipate potential problems and make adjustments.
* Support and work with both internal customers (DC Operations Managers and Associates) as well as external customers (Corporate Offices).

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelors degree in Business, Logistics, Engineering or related area preferred; Masters or MBA preferred.
* Five (5) years of management experience with a progressive track record of increasing responsibility in distribution, home delivery, logistics or manufacturing environment.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong numerical and analytical aptitude.
* Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to form relationships and work successfully with associates, managers, and cross-functional teams across the organization.
* Willingness to take calculated risks.
* Ability to handle changing priorities and use good judgment in stressful situation.
* Demonstrated ability to think both strategically and tactically.
* Strong customer focus, ownership, urgency and drive.
* Proactive attitude and willingness to dig deep to achieve goals.
* Self-motivated individual who can set and meet simultaneous short-and long-term goals.
