Position Summary

We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to join our Marketing Systems & EDW team. The Data Engineering team is responsible for data integration solutions based primarily on our Teradata EDW platform. This includes traditional Ab Initio ETL to support analytic modeling and reporting applications as well as solutions based on SQL, ELT, and Teradata Aster SQL-MapReduce. We are also offloading ETL workload onto Hadoop and adding Informatica Powercenter to our toolset. The ideal candidate is a seasoned ETL professional with a strong background in traditional ETL as well as interest or experience in new & emerging technologies. This is a lead role requiring the ability to design solutions with little or no oversight. Previous experience leading and mentoring a team of developers in data integration best practices and project delivery is required.

Essential Functions

-Design data integration solutions that deliver business value in line with the company's objectives.

-Provide the thought leadership within IT to advise the business, mentor staff, and leverage industry best practices in data integration.
-Provides scoping, estimating, planning, design, development, and support services to a project.

-Identify and develop the Technical detail design document.
-Document and present solution alternatives to clients, which support business processes and business objectives.

-Collaborate with the IT product management team to influence product direction.
-Track progress and intervene as needed to eliminate barriers and ensure delivery.
-Resolve or escalate problems, and manage risk for both development and production support.
-Coordinate vendors and contractors for specific projects or systems.
-Review the technical work of other team members.
-Ensure adherence to IT standards and methods.
-Maintain deep knowledge and awareness of technical & industry best practices and trends, especially in technology & methodologies.
-Ensure that good business relationships are maintained with multiple clients and other IT departments to ensure successful implementation and support of project efforts.
-Responsible for communicating status, problems, issues and underlying process problems to technical and non-technical audiences.

Secondary Functions

-Participate in establishing IT standards and processes
-Participate in recruiting employees and contractors
-Participate in the evaluation of new software and hardware
-Provide input to manager with respect to training needs of team members
-Provide training, guidance, assistance, and knowledge transfer among team members
-Perform other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Requirements:

-BA/BS degree or equivalent experience.
-8 or more years of hands-on experience developing software with Ab-Initio ETL tool and at least 2 years of technical lead.
-8 or more years experience in analyzing, designing, coding, testing, implementation, documentation and maintaining complex software programs.

-2 or more years experience developing in a UNIX/Teradata Data Warehouse environment required.
-Understanding of data integration best practices in data warehouse environment.
-SQL programming and performance tuning experience is required.
-Strong experience in Data Quality, Source Systems Analysis, and Business Rules Validation.
-Demonstrated leadership in instructing, guiding and overseeing the work of team members.
-Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
-Would require working with business users, understanding requirements, and training them on data retrieval from Teradata.
-Enough practical experience to train others in decision making, risk assessment, job knowledge, analysis, and project management.
-Ability to work independently and multi-task to meet critical deadlines in a rapidly changing environment.

-Understanding of data modeling desired.
-Control-M experience is a plus.

-Experience with Oracle desired.

-Experience with Hadoop technologies desired.

-Experience with Informatica Powercenter desired.

-Experience with customer data in a retail setting is also preferred.
