JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Summary:

The Associate Buyer of Global Merchandising is responsible for developing seasonal assortment recommendations for our franchise and wholesale partners in order to maximize the development of the brand as well as sales and profits for Pottery Barn Kids. This individual will identify opportunities and recommend new product or concepts to all partners, coordinate information across functions and work closely with Merchandising, Visual, Creative Services, Sourcing and Inventory Management to ensure the process is followed and timelines are met. Working closely with the Director of Global Merchandising for Pottery Barn Kids & Teen and brand's corporate team, this individual will help shape the short and long term merchandising objectives for the wholesale and franchise business including recommending growth opportunities and operational efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities:

* Cultivate cross functional relationships with Franchise, Merchandising, Visual, Creative Services, Sourcing and Inventory Management in order to deliver high quality products to our customers, in all markets, in a timely and cost efficient manner.
* Develop and recommend seasonal and core product assortments, by country, that appeal to the brand's customer demographic and location. Perform Market analysis by channel, competitive shop and analyze historical sales trends to keep abreast of current trends. Obtain feedback from our partners to improve product and add to collections.
* Work with our partners to identify emerging trends by market and partner in developing business strategies outlining strengths, weaknesses, new opportunities and threats. Communicate annual and seasonal strategies to cross functional areas.
* Communicate recommended assortments, by country, to all pertinent cross functional partners including:

* Brand merchants to ensure that they provide country specific SKU information (i.e . lighting) to Merchandising Operations for input.
* Sourcing and Packaging teams to address any floor ready packaging needs.
* Provide Inventory Management with:

* Final recommended assortment plans (line lists) including product details, importance to overall assortment (big bets), target US retails, and estimated US MMU.
* Recommendations for replacements SKUS when SKUs are dropped or unable to be placed.
* Collaborate with the Manager of Global Visual Merchandising to:

* Provide partners with US visual books
* Plan floor layouts
* Coordinate communication regarding key marketing changes, signage, in-store promotion strategies and placement of markdown goods.
* Manage wholesale account profitability through design and capital expenditures in partnership with the west elm Account team
* Partner with west elm Account team in managing account profitability with a focus on seasonal assortments and product information & training
* Present assortment and product training to accounts for Pottery Barn Kids
* For assigned areas, approve final: assortment by channel, floor maps by season, and catalog pagination.
* For assigned areas, provide: brand strategy, US' best and worst seller recaps, visual line lists and US' promotional strategies.
* Investigate and respond to partner issues. Resolve these issues or escalate to Director and relevant functional partners.
* Develop efficient process that results in excellent work and efficient handoffs to cross functional and external partners.
* For assigned areas, approve final: assortment by channel, floor maps by season, and catalog pagination.
* For assigned areas, provide: brand strategy, US' best and worst seller recaps, visual line lists and US' promotional strategies.
* Communicate global business to US team through store walkthroughs, strategy meetings, and business updates

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

* BA/BS Required.
* Previous experience in a retail or merchandising, ideally 4-5+ years; global experience is a plus.

* Proficient in Microsoft Excel (V-lookups; Pivot Tables)
* Demonstrates sense of urgency & ability to seek-out solutions
* Acts like an owner and strong communication skills
* Experience working with wholesale ordering systems is a plus
* Ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment
