Applications Solutions Director

The overall mission is to take business requirements from idea to business reality to implementation. Responsible for translating business requirements into specific systems, applications or process designs for very large complex IT solutions and integrating architecture. Acts as an advocate for the customer and as the ultimate authority on the architecture designed to address client business problems. Provides direction for design activities. Responsibilities include setting the program objectives and priorities and developing the various technology solutions from concept to reality. Another area of responsibility is managing business expectations and conflict resolution to keep the various projects on goal. This person will report directly to the SVP of Technology and will have a close working relationship with the Technical Architect, PMO, Business Solutions Group and Segments Operations organization.

Areas of Direct Ownership:

* Solutions Management: Responsible for working with Business Solutions and the various operational disciplines to develop the technical solution that satisfies the program's needs. This includes:
o Acts as an internal consultant, developing ideas and giving technology solution direction on complex, strategic business issues that can be solved through the use of technology.
o Develop Technology Solutions and Opportunity choices to give to the business.
o Translate the solution opportunity into business requirements that can be used by IT for analysis of build vs buy.
o Translate business requirements into technical specifications for development and support purposes.
o Work closely with Technical Architects to develop solution and direction.
* Acts as an expert in the field, uses professional concepts in developing resolution to critical issues and broad design matters.
* Working with business and IT executives in building and maintaining the strategic operational programs.
* Works on significant and unique issues where analysis of situations or data requires and evaluation of intangibles.
* Acts independently to determine methods and procedures and/or may supervise the activities of others.
* Developing strong working relationships at senior management levels to ensure overall project satisfaction and to manage expectations regarding functionality and deliverables.
* Participating in the prioritization, positioning, high-level estimation, and scoping of strategic initiatives.
* Ensuring that all key project issues and risks are surfaced early and resolved in a satisfactory manner.
* Working as an integral part of the Senior Management team, providing input to key business direction.
* Identifying and/or supporting the identification of IT strategies and applications that augment or support the business strategy.
* Ensuring that IT is utilized in a strategic manner in concert with appropriate cost and risk boundaries set for the business.
* Proactively identifying improvement opportunities.
* Displaying strong partnership values in the approach and delivery of projects
* Acts as a role model and mentor on technical, strategy and team management issues



* A Bachelors Degree in Business Administration or Computer Science or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience.
* 12+ years of experience developing technology solutions and managing multiple technical consulting projects.
* 5+ years in a delivery oversight role such as a Client Partner, Technology Manager, or Solutions Director
* Ability to matrix manage projects from beginning lifecycle to completion.
* Strong understanding of emerging business solutions, technologies, and delivery methodologies in the healthcare, life sciences and technology sector.
* Strong project management skills with the ability to lead technical professionals.
* Ability to systematically gather relevant information from different sources to address an issue and make a prompt and insightful decision.
* Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
* Ability to build constructive business relationships and gain the trust of others.
* Demonstrated ability to anticipate, mitigate, and resolve conflicts across workgroups.
* Proven experience in developing and executing plans, meeting deadlines and operating under tight time constraints.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Demonstrated experience in making articulate and effective oral presentations to different audiences.
* Excellent interpersonal skills including such areas as team spirit, negotiation, collaboration, pitching in where needed, and respecting individuals at all levels.
* Demonstrated ability to negotiate and manage external vendors.
* Self-motivated and able to work independently.
* Ability to work collaboratively and influence others within a matrix environment.
* Comfortable with some ambiguity, as this is a new role in the organization.
* Demonstrated ability to lead the management of project financials.

Candidate should have previous experience leading and managing medium to large IT organizations.
