The Director, Divisional Merchandise Management reports into the Vice President, Furniture Merchandising and is responsible for the categories of sofas, sectionals, occasional chairs, and special order upholstery. This is a critical role for the company which oversees one of the largest and fastest departments. Key responsibilities include directing future growth initiatives and the evaluation and drive of the assortment strategy, with consideration of key analyses. The DMM should be comfortable driving impact across all customer-facing platforms from production information to store and online shopping, and product attributes to pricing to ensure the department sustains its growth trajectory. This role will develop merchandising business strategies that work with the brand, identify new product/category opportunities and manage information across functions (Design, Inventory Management, Sourcing, Visual) and across channels to maximize the development of the brand, sales and profits for the division. The DMM reviews and identifies strategic opportunities and direction, and approves/reviews financial plans in conjunction with VP Merchandising. The DMM of Casual Seating needs to be just as comfortable wearing an operational hat to drive the cross-functional team, as well as a creative hat to drive the product and consumer experience. A candidate in this role will have the opportunity to lead the highest visibility category within the company, which will drive direct impact to the West Elm business. They will have regular interaction with the Brand President, as well as the SVP of Merchandising and Design to drive strategic alignment. Through partnership with our sourcing team, the DMM of Casual Seating will also drive direct and indirect relationships with key vendors. Lastly, the DMM will oversee a department of associates of varying levels and will be responsible for the management and development of the team.

Essential Functions:
* Identify the strategic direction for the division. Communicate the vision and inspire team to develop business plans and identify new opportunities. Implement tactical plans derived from strategy by working across functional areas.
* Review category strategy for department to ensure current trends are capitalized upon throughout the department.
* For your departments, review and approve: Strategic plans to explore new business opportunities, Product mix to ensure all collections have a cohesive look and meets standards, Final samples, Annual and seasonal financial plans to maximize sales and profits, and Seasonal assortment plans (line lists) to ensure product is appropriate for brand.
* Work closely with visual merchandising to plan floor layouts for division.
* Review markdown strategies.
* Develop staffing and succession plans. Interview candidates and approve final candidates.
* Determine work load for staff; recommend effective processes and procedures to improve workflow and results.
* Provide direction and clarify objectives. Evaluate and appraise performance.
* Mentor, educate and develop staff.
* Lead and facilitate meetings for your departments across functions and distribution channels.
* Present concepts to President, SVP, and cross-functional leadership. Collaborate and seek feedback on ideas and products.
* Regularly shop competitors to keep abreast of trends.
* Participate in key company strategic initiatives and steering committees.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:
* BA required.
* Buying/Merchandising with 7-10 years' experience.
* People management experience required.
* Premium hard goods merchandising experience preferred, with demonstrated successes combining function and fashion.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Demonstrated Catalog experience and success required.
