The buying/merchandising team is responsible for developing and managing the right product assortment to drive sales, inventory and profit objectives. This team operates as a central hub that interacts with nearly all cross-functional teams within the organization, but most closely, partners with the design, sourcing, planning, distribution, visual and marketing teams to design, manufacture and market the assortment for our stores and web/catalog. Currently, the merchandising organization is working on several exciting initiatives that will ensure west elm sustains long-term growth as a leader in specialty retail.

The Associate Buyer will be responsible for co-managing the Flooring business within the textile department, as well as, analyzing sales and sharing insights and opportunities with the Buyer and VP of Textiles. The Associate Buyer collaborates closely with the rest of the merchandising team to build an assortment that is cohesive and aesthetically balanced, profitable, and diversified across the Consciousness initiatives that are part of West Elm's DNA.

* Work w/Buyer in developing the seasonal assortment plans (line lists) to define product requirements for Design and Sourcing to ensure on time delivery and commercial viability of product.
* Responsible for supporting the life cycle of the product in the following ways: Systemic updates, sku creation and tracking, Catalogue/EComm materials, photo sample request and tracking.
* Communicate annual and seasonal strategies by providing Inventory Management with final assortment plans (line lists), product details, target retails, estimated IMU , importance to overall assortment (big bets) , flow and exits for developing purchase projections and buy plans. Update documents and ensure accuracy.
* Work with Buyer to lead cross functional team to achieve financial metric and goals for area.
* Perform in season optimization through business reporting and analysis.
* Correspond with functional areas. Resolves handles and escalates difficult issues to Buyer, Call Center and Stores.
* Responsible for reviewing catalog proofs and website testing for each season (pricing, naming, copy).
* Work with Visual to communicate product strategies, create signage and in-store displays. Provide Visual with product information (facts, inspiration, pricing). Coordinate the development of all signage (new, special, markdowns) and all in-store collateral.
* Perform market analysis, competitive shop and analyze sales trends to keep abreast of current trends
* Identify emerging trends and work with Buyer to develop business strategies outlining strengths, weaknesses, new opportunities and threats.

* 3-5 years merchandising experience.
