This is an exciting opportunity to join the entrepreneurial and highly collaborative team, west elm LOCAL. The goal of west elm LOCAL is to support and showcase makers and designers, further building community around our stores. Currently, there are LOCAL product collections in all west elm stores supporting the work of 500+ makers and designers across the country, as well as the Best Of LOCAL collection and blog online featuring a curated assortment of LOCAL makers and designers.
The Assistant Buyer, Local will support the local department with vendor communication and onboarding as well as SKU creation and other vendor-focused administrative responsibilities.

Essential Functions:
* Support vendor outreach and on-boarding including: contract negotiation, product selection and initial overview calls with all vendors.
* Manage ongoing relationships with LOCAL vendors, including but not limited to: monitoring the weLOCAL email, addresses vendor information changes, inventory issues and Maker recommendations.
* Merchandising: setup and maintain all LOCAL SKU's.
* Create and maintain all store facing materials for LOCAL OTB.
* Track and open packages and samples; coordinate movement of merchandise to sample rooms.
* Attend team meetings with merchandising and inventory.
* Prepare analysis as directed.
* General administrative duties.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:
* BA/BS preferred.
* 1-2 years of work experience, preferably in retail
* Experience with PowerPoint
* Copy editing and proofreading experience a plus
* Previous experience in merchandising.
* Advanced Excel skills; Quark 6.1 and Adobe knowledge desirable.
