This role drives the creative look and feel for our seasonal product launches in our new brand areas, which include West Elm Collection, West Elm Workspace, and West Elm Hotels. The creative executed by this role is integral in visually communicating product design and interior lifestyles, and how those lifestyles translate to the workspace and hotels. The proper design and art direction combined with the right content drives customer engagement with the brand. Visual content created from this role directly translates the brands marketing needs, ultimately driving revenue for the business. Our ultimate goal as a brand is to create impactful, and innovative design for the home, workspace, and hotels and to engage and educate the customer on our key initiatives and our impact to the community.

This is a small and new team that reports to the Director of Creative, and works closely with the SVP of Product Development. This enables us to translate initial product design concepts into printed materials, web and social media assets, and video related to West Elm Collection, Workspace, and Hotels. It is an exciting opportunity to be a part of a growing brand, setting new design and art direction standards in a start-up environment. Social, editorial, merchant, marketing and photo production teams partner with art director.

Core responsibilities
*Operates with a solid grasp of brand's aesthetic. Elevates and evolves the photo aesthetic + storytelling while supporting the overall brand direction.
*Elevate the brand direction through new design trends. Continue to develop graphic design of catalog and associated collateral each new season.
*Partner with Photo, Editorial, and Merchant teams on story concepts to support key product initiatives for each season.
*Work closely with Director of Creative and merchant partner in paginating all catalogs.
*Partner with Producer to manage shoot crew in studio or on location and lead a shoot efficiently and effectively.
*Creatively manage shoot with internal team and production partners
*Collaborate with Stylists and Photographers to ensure concepts and brand vision are compelling.
*Integrate editorial content into print material and collaborate closely with copy team to communicate brand messaging.
*Concept, design, and oversee production of materials related to the catalog and other direct to consumer collateral.
*Work with production at earliest stage to ensure the most innovative creative yet cost-effective approach
*Design and guide production of marketing materials from concept to presentation to final execution.


You'll need a strong understanding of print design and photo art direction and the ability to lead a team to beautiful, sophisticated, and innovative concepts. Knowledge in interiors, art, and fashion will ultimately help create aspirational, new content and set us apart from other retail brands. Key attributes include love for collaboration, strong communication skills and sense of ownership and urgency in delivering quality in all projects. *BFA or BA degree in art/design/graphic design
*4-6 years of experience in photography art direction, interiors experience preferred
*5+ years graphic experience in a retail environment or design firm
*Existing knowledge of and relationships with prop stylists and photographers
*Editorial design experience preferred
*Strong storytelling/narrative capability
*Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite
*Management skills a plus
*Strong time management, communication, interpersonal skills, and ability to multi-task
*Ability to adapt to changing business needs while maintaining creative quality.
*Knowledge of post production (but not required to execute these skills)
*Understanding that we are a retail brand and need to sell product, not just aspiration
*Know their limitations within creative development as it relates to budget
